Masai mara Safaris – 5 Days

$1,000 $750

Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, you will be met and assisted by Travel Wild Representative. After a brief introduction, we travel into the Great Rift Valley to Lake Naivasha a beautiful fresh water lake, fringed by thick papyrus. Arrive in time to check in and later have lunch.  The lake is almost 13kms wide, but its waters are shallow.  The lake and its surroundings are rich in natural beauty, and the fertile soils and water supply have made this one of Kenya’s prime agricultural regions. The waters of the lake draw a great range of game to these shores.

Description

Giraffes are often seen wondering among the acacia, buffalo wallow in the swamps and Colobus monkeys call from the treetops while the Lake’s large hippo population sleeps the day out in the shallow waters. Sunsets are stunning; with the haunting call of a Fish Eagle high over the lake bringing the day to a perfect end. After lunch enjoy boat ride to Crescent Island which is a private Wildlife Sanctuary on the eastern side of Lake Naivasha.

Arrive in time to check in and later have lunch.  The lake is almost 13kms wide, but its waters are shallow.  The lake and its surroundings are rich in natural beauty, and the fertile soils and water supply have made this one of Kenya’s prime agricultural regions. The island is a submerged rim of a volcanic crater and here, you can walk among the yellow barked “fever trees” with the possibility of seeing various animals. The huge fish eagle with its distinctive cry is common to the area.

Day 2

LAKE NAIVASHA-MASAI MARA (Approx. 6 hours’ drive)

After breakfast, depart for the world famous Masai Mara National Reserve. Arrive at your camp for check-in and have lunch. The camp blends in perfectly with its surrounding hillside landscape. The accent here is on the Masai people and the wealth of wildlife, birdlife, and natural flora to be found in the fabled Masai Mara Game Reserve. Enjoy an afternoon 1600hrs game drive around the world famous Mara. Dinner and overnight stay at the Zebra Plains Camp (B/L/D)

DAY 3

 MASAI MARA

Full day spent in the Mara with morning and afternoon game drives. Before the afternoon game drive, head for a cultural Masai Village Visit

The traditional Masai village is called a Manyatta and consists of a number of small cow dung made huts with thatched roofs. The huts are placed in a circle with livestock in the middle and a thick thorny fence for protection against the nightly predators. First, they welcome you with some chanting. They also proceed to show how high they can jump and get you try jumping higher than them. With the assistance of a local Masai chief, you take the informative tour around the “Manyatta”,  building fires without matches, how to make bracelets and necklaces with beeds and other exciting innovative experiences.

All meals and overnight stay at the Zebra Plain Camp (B/L/D) Masai Mara offers an absolutely unique variety of animals. The reason is that this hilly region is both humid and fertile, and is crossed by the Mara and Talek rivers, full of crocodiles and hippos. The abundance of water and excellent availability of food are the reasons why the Masai Mara, which in fact is a continuation of the Tanzanian Serengeti National Park, has the greatest population of wild animals in the whole of Africa. There is a particularly dramatic “spectacle” from July to October, the annual migration of huge herds of Gnus and zebras. Predators such as Hyenas, Jackals, Leopards and Lions of course, closely follow these herds. Gigantic herds of over 200 buffaloes can also be observed. Plenty of food is available for elephants, giraffes, and the many species of antelopes.
